Gigstarz is a community of freelancers who meet regularly, to learn and grow and share gigs or jobs. It is an outfit in Kampala setup in response to increasing number of youth who are employed in Uganda’s gig economy.
Why Gigstarz
Whereas the Ugandan labour market has not recognized their existence in strong official ways, there are more and more people having to offer their services and skills on a freelance basis. Some of the reasons being;
- High unemployment due to inability of our mainstream job market to absorb those coming into it.
- The world wide rise of the gig economy as a direct result of the Millennial joining the workplace which brings with it; a search for meaningful employment, flexibility at work etc
In direct opposition to this Gig economy are issues like;
- Absence of experience and need for mentorship, learning and continuous improvement Structure for participants.
- Quality management in service provision.
- Payment challenges.
- The economics of life; issues like health insurance cover, financial growth, investment management, retirement saving etc
Gigstarz was setup to answer these questions. We are building a community that can provide strong sufficient answers.
